A review of Independence Medical Center’s current EHR system revealed many major concerns. Key stakeholders and end-users stated that the current EHR system was seen as “clunky,” difficult to manage, lacked interoperability, and failed to fulfill meaningful use standards. These flaws were leading to inefficiencies in everyday operations, decreased accuracy, and poor departmental communication.
Based on this study, a recommendation was made to replace the EHR system with a more current, user-friendly platform. This improvement is intended to increase operational efficiency, data accuracy, seamless communication, and compliance with meaningful use criteria. Implementing a modern EHR system would address these issues, resulting in better patient care and optimal workflow across the organization.
Several important stakeholders must be addressed while updating the EHR system because of their direct dependency on the system’s functionality and influence on the organization’s operations (Upadhyay & Hu, 2022). Clinicians are among the most important stakeholders since they manage and access huge volumes of patient data such as diagnostics, reports, prescriptions, and other key information. Clinicians are in charge of recording correct and full patient data, which directly affects doctors, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners. The constraints of the previous system, such as the inability to obtain real-time reports and inaccurate data, hampered their capacity to provide timely and efficient care.
Office employees responsible for the management of clinical and surgical responsibilities are also important stakeholders, particularly those involved in billing, coding, and assuring the correctness of patient visits. Their dependence on reliable EHR data assures correct invoicing, compliance, and reimbursement, all of which are vital to the organization’s financial health (Burks et al., 2022). Lastly, senior executives, including department heads and administrators, are important stakeholders since their primary goal is to increase revenue, lower readmission rates, and improve overall operational efficiency. These stakeholders must be included throughout the EHR upgrade process to ensure that the system corresponds with their objectives and contributes to the organization’s overall performance.
